Petrichor RPG announced, chasing the EarthBound feeling
Solo developer Potesara and publisher Monster Theater are bringing a turn-based RPG about a space cub's search for the perfect houseplant to PC, following a successful Kickstarter.
Petrichor is a turn-based RPG from solo developer Potesara, published by Monster Theater, targeting a PC release next year after a successful Kickstarter campaign. A free demo is already available on Steam.
The game follows Jobert, a space cub searching the cosmos for the perfect houseplant, alongside a cast of friends he picks up helping the people he meets along the way. Its influences are worn openly: pre-rendered visuals and a turn-based structure that draw explicit comparison to EarthBound, Moon: Remix RPG Adventure and Super Mario RPG.
Combat leans on a roster of deliberately un-heroic weapons — hammers, a butter knife, boxing gloves — combined with quick-time inputs that reward good timing with bonus damage, layered over what the developer describes as a bouncy, upbeat soundtrack and a tone built around zany sidequests rather than high stakes.
